diorama wird 1996 als musikalisches projekt von sänger und mastermind
torben wendt gegründet. torbens musikalische laufbahn umfasst bis zu
diesem zeitpunkt eine 13-jährige klassische klavierausbildung, das mitwirken
in der punkband ‚drinking bier’ als schlagzeuger und gemeinsame tranceproduktionen
mit dem späteren diorama-bandmitglied felix marc unter dem
pseudonym ‚nexus’.
auf der suche nach musikalischer selbstverwirklichung und nach dem
komponieren einiger frühwerke wie dem zeitlosen ‚leaving hollywood’ beginnt
torben die aufnahmen für das debutalbum ‚pale’, die im weiteren verlauf mit
adrian hates von ‚diary of dreams’ und rainer assmann, der bereits mit größen
wie daf und fad gadget gearbeitet hat, namhafte unterstützer finden. nach
zweijähriger produktionszeit erscheint ‚pale’ im september 1999 bei accession
records. ‘pale’ entwickelt sich trotz seiner introvertierten und stillen
charakteristik zu einem erstaunlich erfolgreichen album, das sowohl bei
kritikern als auch bei einer internationalen zuhörerschaft, unter anderem in
südafrika, anklang findet.
im sommer 2000 geht diorama als supportband von diary of dreams auf
mehrwöchige konzerttournee, im rahmen derer torben die musikalische
darbietung seiner stücke auf klavier und gesang beschränkt.
das zweite diorama-album ‘her liquid arms’ markiert einen wichtigen schritt.
keyboarder, co-produzent und hintergrund-sänger felix marc stößt als zweites
standbein zum lineup dazu. ‘her liquid arms’ erscheint im april 2001 und fällt
wesentlich rhythmus-orientierter, elektronischer und massiver aus als sein
vorgänger. clubhits wie ‘advance’ und ‘hla’ sorgen für eine zunehmende
internationale fangemeinde und das vorstoßen auf platz 4 in den deutschen
alternative-charts dac. im september 2001 erscheint die ebenfalls
clubtaugliche nachfolge-single ‘device’.
im januar 2002 beginnt eine phase der musikalischen neuausrichtung.
nachdem torben ein halbes jahr in toronto/kanada gelebt hat, wartet eine
unendliche ideenfülle auf umsetzung und mit dem bassisten bernard le sigue,
den torben und felix im studium kennenlernen, erfährt das line-up die nächste
erweiterung. während der nächsten acht monate komponiert die band in
langen nächtlichen aufnahmesessions ihren dritten longplayer mit dem
ausgefallenen titel ‘the art of creating confusing spirits’, der im oktober 2002
auf den markt kommt. experimentell und unkonventionell wie nie zuvor legen
diorama ein album außerhalb jeder kategorisierung vor, das das ungeheure
kreative potenzial der band aufzeigt, auf platz 5 in den dac steigt, und bald als
besonderes musikalisches highlight des jahres 2002 gilt.
im november/dezember 2002 begleiten diorama, diesmal in bandbesetzung,
erneut diary of dreams auf deren tour durch deutschland und europa.
das jahr 2003 schickt diorama auf weite musikalische reisen unter
anderem nach mexico und kanada, während neue songs entstehen und
an der nächsten veröffentlichung gearbeitet wird. torben zieht es
abermals in ausland, diesmal für ein halbes jahr nach valencia/spanien,
und der gitarrist sash fiddler, ein früherer bandkollege bernard’s, wird
viertes mitglied.
nach einer längeren phase der abwesenheit vom markt, in der jedoch
fieberhaft gearbeitet wurde, schlägt im april 2005 diorama’s viertes album
‚amaroid’ auf. um ‚amaroid’ dem publikum vorzustellen, begleiten diorama
die vnv nation formation tour 2005 durch deutschland, holland, belgien,
österreich, der schweiz und frankreich. auch ‚amaroid’ verbucht dacerfolge
und steigt bis auf platz 4. kein zweifel, diorama sind an die
speerspitze der darkwave-szene zurückgekehrt. im oktober 2005 erscheint
mit dem album ‚repale’ eine zusammenstellung neuer versionen früherer
stücke, externer remix-beiträge und bisher unveröffentlichter songs, die
ein weiteres deutliches zeichen hinter das musikalische wirken von
diorama setzt. auch ‚repale’ erobert die deutschen alternative charts und
verbleibt wochenlang in den top 5. im gleichen zeitraum absolvieren
diorama ihre erste headliner-tour in deutschland und weitere konzerte in
polen und russland.
die nächste albenveröffentlichung aus dem hause diorama war für märz
2007 angesetzt. während der produktionsphase, die fast das gesamte jahr
2006 in anspruch nimmt, betätigt sich torben wendt als remixer für
verschiedene bands, unter anderem für „angels&agony“ und „frozen
plasma“, als gastsänger, unter anderem bei „painbastard“ und
„klangstabil“ und als co-produzent.
bassist bernard le sigue verlässt das line-up ende des jahres 2006.
die single-auskoppelung „synthesize me" erschien am 23|02|2007. das
sechste studioalbum der reutlinger „a different life“ folgte am 23|03|2007.
source während "synthesize me" und "a different life" sich wochen- und gar monatelang in den relevanten alternativ-charts tummelten, feierte die band große erfolge auf nationalen sowie internationalen konzert- und festivalbühnen. torben wendts entwicklung zum fronter, der jeden auftritt zu einem vulkanartigen ausbruch von emotionen werden läßt, trägt dazu ebenso bei, wie das können felix marc's , sash fiddler's und marquess' , die interaktion der gesamten band untereinander und mit dem publikum. außerdem erfreuten zwei exklusive songs die ohren der geneigten hörerschaft ( "shut up and smile forever" und "mutant city") und es entstanden einige großartige remixe. man darf auf die nächsten veröffentlichungen aus dem hause diorama durchaus gespannt sein! marquess | drums diorama is founded in 1996 as the musical project of singer and mastermind torben wendt. up to this point, torben’s musical career includes a 13-year
classic piano education, an involvement as drummer in the punk band
‘drinking bier’ and trance productions together with felix marc, who would
later become a diorama member, under the pseudonym ‘nexus’.
on his quest for artificial self-realization and after composing several early
works like the timeless piece ‘leaving hollywood’, torben starts recording the
diorama debut ‘pale’. during the course of his work, adrian hates from ‘diary
of dreams’ and rainer assmann who has already collaborated with acts like daf
and fad gadget join the production process as well-known supporters. after
two years of production, ‘pale’ is released on accession records in september
1999. despite its relatively introvert and moody character, ‘pale’ is well
received by critics and an international audience, for instance in south-africa.
in the summer of 2000, torben is supporting the ‘one of 18 angels’ germany
tour of diary of dreams and also plays a few gigs in the rest of europe. he
performs an acoustic set, solely based on piano and vocals.
the second album ‘her liquid arms’ marks an important step. keyboard player,
co-producer and background vocalist felix marc joins diorama as second
member. ‘her liquid arms’ is released in april 2001 and turns out more
rhythm-oriented, electronic and massive than its predecessor. strong clubplay
of tracks like ‘advance’, along with positive press reviews, leads to a rising
level of popularity and position 4 in the german alternative charts dac. in
september 2001, the club-oriented follow-up single ‘device’ is released.
in january 2002, a period of musical reorientation begins. after torben has
been living in toronto/canada for six months, an infinite pool of ideas and
inspirations is waiting to become audible, while university friend bernard le
sigue grows into the line-up as bassist. during endless night shifts over the
following eight months, diorama write their third longplayer unusually titled
‘the art of creating confusing spirits’, which is released in october 2002. it is
widely regarded as the band's most experimental piece in terms of
instrumentation, lyrics and stylistic variety and it reaches position 5 in the dac.
in november/december 2002, diorama are supporting diary of dreams on their
tour throughout germany and europe, this time in their band line-up.
the year 2003 takes diorama to far places like mexico and canada, while new
tracks are being created and the next release is being worked on. torben is
drawed abroad again, this time to valencia/spain, where he spends half-ayear.
in the meantime guitar player sash fiddler, a former band mate of
bernard, becomes member number four.
after a longer period of absence from the market, which the band needed to
prepare their next release, diorama's fourth longplayer ‘amaroid’ hits the
ground. to present amaroid to the public, diorama join vnv nation on their
‘formation’ tour 2005 throughout germany, holland, belgium, austria,
switzerland, hungary and france. ‘amaroid’ chalks up success in the dac, too,
and rises up to position 4. no doubt, diorama are back at the spearhead of
darkwave. in october 2005, the album ‘repale’ is released, containing new
versions of earlier diorama pieces, external remixes and previously unreleased
song material and represents yet another remarkable effort in diorama’s
musical work. in the same time frame, diorama take on their first headliner
tour in germany and further gigs in poland and russia.
the next album release from the house of diorama is scheduled for march
2007. during the production phase, which consumes almost the whole year
2006, torben wendt also acts as remixer for various bands like
„angels&agony“ and „frozen plasma“, as guest singer, among others for
„painbastard“ ans „klangstabil“ and as co-producer. bass player bernard le sigue leaves the line-up at the end of 2006.
the pre-album single „synthesize me” appeared on 23|02|2007. the sixth
studio album of the band from reutlingen „a different life“ followed on 23|03|2007. source "synthezise me" and "a different life" are staying in the charts for weeks and months to come. diorama are celebrating their success on national as well as on international stages during that time.torbens abilities as a fronter with his mimics and gestures, the skills of felix marc, sash fiddler and marquess as well as the interaction of the band among themselves and the audience, make every concert an experience. diorama also released two exclusive songs on samplers called 'shut up and smile forever' and 'mutant city' as well as some great remixes.one can be curious about the next diorama releases. |
